Kenya Welcome Home Function

18 March 2015, Villa Rosa Kempinski, Nairobi, Kenya

Group photoAustralia Awards – Africa held a prominent half day Welcome Home event in Nairobi, Kenya on 18 March 2015 at the Villa Rosa Kempinksi Hotel.  The function was designed to recognise 33 Kenyans who recently returned home from their studies under a fully-funded Australia Awards scholarship. Poster presentations by Alumni who had returned six months ago showcased development-focussed projects they are leading such as the Nairobi River Basin Rehabilitation program, Promotion of agricultural value chain strengthening and market linkages in Central Kenya and Gender Mainstreaming in Bungoma County, Western Kenya. These initiatives demonstrated how high quality education can translate into concrete benefits through the application of knowledge and skills on return. The event attracted over 70 guests, including 35 Alumni, officials from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, representatives from Alumni’s employing organisations and other key Kenyan Ministries, members of the Kenyan Australia Alumni Association and other stakeholders from the private sector and civil society. The event also provided a valuable opportunity for alumni to build networks and showcase their achievements upon return.
