Invitation to Tender: Stay Connected Events

Closes: 14 February 2018 at 17:00PM AEST

In May 2017, the Australia Awards – Africa program undertook a comprehensive reintegration review looking at the program’s approach to reintegration and Australia Awards global best practice to inform future delivery of reintegration support. The review found that in-Australia reintegration workshops could do more to manage the expectations of Awardees as they prepare for return to Africa, as well as enhancing soft skills.

The Australia Awards Global Strategy 2016-2018 and Australia Global Alumni Engagement Strategy 2016-2020 provides a platform for engagement with Awardees to contribute to a connected, engaged, and influential Alumni network. The proposed Australia Awards Linkages framework proposes a consistent, enriched and empowered experience for Australia Awards recipients to help foster enduring and mutually beneficial links with Australia and the promotion of Australian values in our region. (DFAT, Australia Awards Linkages Draft Framework, June 2017). The approach highlights the importance of engaging scholarship recipients throughout each award phase; pre-award, on-award and post-award.

In line with these strategies and the reintegration review, the Australia Awards – Africa program will implement an enhanced approach to connecting with Awardees during their time in Australia (on-award). These strategies will also encourage Awardees to seek out stronger links with Australians and Australian organisations thereby strengthening the positive view Awardees have of Australians and their awards experience. A suite of on- award activities will be implemented by the program under the enhanced banner of Stay Connected, such as mentoring, internships, professional development and reintegration support. These activities will be strategically linked with the program outcomes:

  1. Alumni are using awards skills, knowledge and networks to contribute to sustainable development;
  2. Alumni have positive on-going links with Australia that contribute to positive business and development outcomes and broader cooperation between Australia and partner governments and;
  3. Targeted countries in Africa view Australia as a valued partner.

These terms of reference outline the delivery of Stay Connected events in Australia which will replace the former reintegration workshops. Stay Connected events will be held at regular intervals throughout the academic year. They will empower and support Awardees to utilise their skills, knowledge and networks to improve their reintegration. These terms of reference outline the requirements of a contractor to be appointed to design and deliver workshop sessions in six Australian locations – Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Canberra and Perth, up to three times a year.
