Continuous Professional Development

Occasionally, Australia Awards – Africa offers Alumni (and Awardees) access to Continuous Professional Development (CPD) opportunities. In addition to continuous training and education, these events are highly interactive and allow participants to share ideas and experiences thus strengthening their professional networks.

The Program engages Alumni through a suite of offline and online professional development and networking opportunities and events, hosted by both the Palladium and DFAT, as well as the Alumni Associations.

The Alumni Engagement team organises and supports key CPD events annually for a select number of Alumni to attend and leverage off existing in-Africa international conferences. Alumni and Awardees may also get the opportunity to attend Australian conferences such as Africa Down Under.

In addition, Awardees and Alumni may have access to funding that supports their CPD initiatives, such as:

  • Awardees delivering papers at conferences, within Australia, can apply for funding from the On-Award Enrichment Fund to cover some of their costs
  • Alumni Associations providing CPD opportunities to their members can apply for funding from the Small Grants scheme.

Examples of recent CPD opportunities supported by the Alumni Engagement Team:

  • Africa Week and Africa Down Under (ADU), Perth, Australia
  • The Africa Public and Private Partnerships (APPP) Conference, Cape Town, South Africa
  • The West Africa Alumni Forum, Accra Ghana in cooperation with the Minerals and Energy for Development Alliance (MEfDA)
  • Mining Indaba in Cape Town, South Africa
  • The International Tropical Agriculture Conference in Brisbane, Australia.

Finally, the Program also supports several Women in Leadership training opportunities each year and Alumni Association Leaders have access to a Leadership E-course on the Alumni Portal.

To improve your chance of being invited to some of these opportunities, please ensure that your employer, personal and contact information on the Alumni database are current. Also, make sure that your membership of your in-country Alumni association is updated.
