Nutrigenomics for improved nutritional quality of pigeon pea legume in Kenya

Image

Dr Njaci and Dr Mware are the first researchers in the world to identify markers in pigeon pea varieties associated with mineral accumulation of aluminum, copper, iron, magnesium, molybdenum, nickel and potassium. Their discovery will help researchers characterise the potential of other varieties to produce grain legumes with high mineral concentration. This important research can also be used to transfer these traits to more popularly grown varieties, producing nutritious legumes.
