Southern African scholars prepare for Australia

The Australian High Commissioner to South Africa (accredited to Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Mozambique and Namibia), Ms Gita Kamath, warmly welcomed the 2020 Australia Awards–Africa scholars at a pre-departure briefing in Pretoria. The scholars, from each country, attended the briefing as part of their preparation to travel to Australia, for the prestigious study opportunity.  Ms Kamath related to the scholars as additions to the Australia Awards family and encouraged them to establish rich links and networks while in Australia.

Evodia Karedi, one of the excited scholars, was pleased to hear the experiences of recently returned alumni at the briefing, “the alumni’s experience was valuable”. Evodia is a Project Coordinator at the Department of Rural Development and Land Reforms in South Africa. She will be pursuing a Master of Community Development at Murdoch University.

Emanuel Malai, an assistant lecturer at the Eduardo Mondlane University, Mozambique, expressed his gratitude at the level of support that Australia Awards gave to its candidates. “The support that we have received from the applications stage to now, as we prepare for mobilisation, has been extensive and important to us. This support is what makes this program unique from others” he said. Emanuel will be undertaking a Master of Agricultural Science at the University of Queensland.
