Towards sustainable development: Africa Industrialisation Day – 20 November 2016

Thirty of the world’s 48 least-developed countries are located in Africa. Africa Industrialisation Day is intended to mobilise the commitment of the international community to the industrialisation of Africa. Australia has shown commitment to the economic development of Africa – apart from investment in infrastructure development, Australia is also investing in building the knowledge and skills needed by African professionals to create and sustain industrialised economies through the Australia Awards – Africa program.

Alumni of the program are playing a major role in industrialisation, using their post-Award skills and knowledge to help develop their communities, countries and the continent. Engineer, Bridget Dooshima Damjor from Nigeria, is one example. She is contributing to changing the public transport system in Nigeria.
